Do you really know what your Florida Car Insurance Policy covers?

When it comes to auto insurance, there are several different types of coverages you are required to purchase for your Florida car insurance policy and other coverages you should consider purchasing to ensure coverage for you, your passengers, and for the other party should you get into an accident.

Coverages Required in the State of Florida

The state of Florida requires that you purchase at least the minimum limit amount of $10,000 for Property Damage Liability coverage and Personal Injury Protection. Personal Injury Protection covers your costs in the case of an accident. It helps pay for reasonable and necessary medical expenses for you and your dependents.

Property Damage Liability covers you if your car damages someone else’s property, such as: their car, fence, house, etc. When figuring out about how much coverage you should purchase, you should consider how much damage your car could make to someone else’s property.

Coverages Recommended in the State of Florida

Bodily Injury Liability covers the other person that you hit, for which you are responsible. It covers their medical bills, loss of income, pain and suffering, etc. It is important to understand that this coverage does not cover you and your passengers. If you do not have this coverage, the other party for which you are responsible could sue you for this money.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Coverage covers you and your passengers if the other party at fault is uninsured or underinsured. This coverage will cover your personal injuries, damage, death, etc. It will cover your bills up to the limit on your policy.

Comprehensive Coverage covers you in the case of fire, theft, vandalism, hail storm, etc. This coverage will also replace your windshield if an object such as a rock hits and cracks it with no deductible. Damage to your car caused by hitting an animal, such as a deer, is also protected through this coverage.. The deductible for this coverage can range anywhere from $100-$1,000. Similarly, Collision Coverage covers most any other physical damage to your vehicle. For instance, your vehicle will be covered if you hit or are hit by another vehicle.
