In honor of our veterans, Habitat for Humanity will be hosting major fundraising events Veterans Day weekend. These events will begin on November 11th with a dinner to kick off the campaign, and the golf tournament will be held the next morning. The money raised at these events will be used to build a 15-bed transitional house in Leesburg for returning disabled veterans. On the project, the chief executive officer for Habitat, Kent Adcock, said, “We recognized that in Lake County and in Sumter County there’s a need for transitional housing for returning veterans from their tours of duty.” This transitional house that will be built on donated property from Morrison United Methodist Church will try to meet this need.
Not only is Habitat for Humanity working on this transitional house, but they are also in the process of building other houses for veterans and are in need of volunteers. “With the atmosphere and climate the way it is now with our veterans, they need our support and they need resource assistance,” Adcock said. “We want to address the housing the needs and provide housing solutions for returning veterans or disabled veterans.”
