Recently, the State of Florida has made some changes to the No-Fault Automobile law. This law was changed as an effort to reduce the apparent fraud from the system. Before this law was changed, if you were not at fault, you would be able to receive up to $10,000 for medical, dental, chiropractic, massage, or acupuncture bills. There was no time limit as to when you needed to seek medical attention after the accident. However, some things have been changed.
Since the law has been changed, you can no longer receive rights and benefits under your no-fault insurance if you do not seek medical attention within 14 days of the accident. Even if you do not think any serious injury occurred in the accident, you need to get checked out as soon as possible to make sure.
The changes in the law also affect the amount of medical benefits you can receive. You will no longer be able to receive any reimbursement for acupuncture or massage bills. Instead of being able to receive up to $10,000 for chiropractic bills, you can now only receive up to $2,500 under your no-fault automobile coverage. You can only receive up to $10,000 if you are diagnosed with an emergency medical condition by an MD, DO, dentist, physician-assistant, or registered nurse practitioner as long as you report it within 14 days after the accident.
It is important to know and understand these changes so that you know what you can and cannot receive in a no-fault auto accident claim.
